Sports Illustrated has named “10 potential first-time US Olympians to watch” and one of them is Madison Hughes, leader of the USA Eagles national sevens team and captain emeritus of the Dartmouth rugby squad. 

Things did not look promising last September for Cornell University men’s rugby. Big Red started the fall fifteens season with a crushing loss to Dartmouth, and were then handed a defeat by Columbia. The losses were unexpected after an unbeaten 2013 fall season. 

Harvard and Dartmouth are well represented on the 2014-15 USA Rugby National Collegiate Honor Roll, with 12 scholar-athletes from these schools making the list. 

Five members of the Yale Men’s Rugby Team are in New Zealand this summer training with the coaching staff of the Chiefs Investec Super Rugby Team in Hamilton and playing with the storied Hamilton Marist rugby club. 

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth Director of Athletics and Recreation Harry Sheehy announced Thursday the hiring of Katie Dowty as the new head coach for women’s rugby.

The women’s rugby program will be elevated to Division I status as the Big Green’s 35th varsity sport for the 2015-16 academic year. It had operated as a club team since its inception in 1978 with Deb Archambault coaching the squad for the past 28 years before recently announcing her retirement.

After a 20-5 victory over Air Force in the Plate Semis, Dartmouth could not overcome a tough UCLA team in the Plate Final of the 2015 Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia, losing to the Bruins 33-5. 

USA Rugby recently announced the coaching staff for the AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans, and two of the three coaches for this elite squad hail from the Ivy Rugby Conference.

The USA Eagles sevens rugby team, led by Dartmouth’s Madison Hughes, defeated Australia yesterday at the Marriott London Sevens Cup Final to claim their first-ever World Rugby HSBC Sevens World Series championship.

In it’s second year, the Dartmouth 7s Festival brought together an array of teams from DI and DII, as well as some second sides from those teams, for a competitive but low-key day of 7s at the beautiful Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse and Battle and Brophy Fields on the campus of Dartmouth College.

The Yale RFC fell to West Virginia in the D1AA East Regional quarterfinals in Pittsburgh on April 25. The Bulldogs were the surprise qualifier at the regional Elite 8 level after defeating Brown in the Ivy Tournament.

Princeton University captured the 2015 Ivy Rugby Conference Women's Seven-a-Side Championship over Brown University, 22-15, in a wide-open display of offense at Rickerson Field on the West Windsor Campus on Saturday.

The women of Brown University hosted the first-ever NCAA Varsity Sevens tournament on April 11. There was exceptional play by Army and Norwich, who finished in the finals, but all teams displayed good moments of skill and continuity.

At the annual Koranda Cup game between Princeton and Yale, Princeton retained the cup for the fourth straight year with a 31-12 win. The match was played at Yale University's Rugby Pitch on April 11.

For the first time, Yale Rugby have qualified for the D1AA National Championship quarter finals in Pittsburgh. The Bulldogs will play against West Virginia on the weekend of April 25-26.

In Hanover, NH, Navy escaped with a 23-22 victory over Dartmouth. In a game that saw several lead changes, Navy managed to get the final blow, earning them a date with Clemson in the round of eight.

intercollegiate athletic competitions at the varsity level. The name "Ivy Rugby" is used with The Ivy League's permission.
